Australia – Lovehoney.com.au, Australia’s biggest sexual wellness brand, has joined world-leading authorities on sextech for Melbournes’s first ever Sextech Hackathon.

The event, organised by Bryony Cole, Founder of Future of Sex, gave budding technologists, creatives and designers the opportunity to design the next ‘big thing’ in the $30B (global) sextech industry.

Attendees were given the opportunity to research and plan their concept, before splitting into teams and presenting their ideas to a panel of expert judges, which included Future of Sex Founder Bryony Cole, The Hook-up’s Nat Tencic, co-founder of Assembly Four Eliza Sorensen and Director of Lovehoney Australia Rob Godwin. Each of the judges were on hand throughout the three-day event to inspire, discuss and mentor teams as they developed their ideas and creations.

Rob said: “It was a great event to be involved in and we saw some really exciting ideas come to life – not only sex toy developments, but also some innovative technology around sex education for young people. These kinds of advances in sextech are a really intuitive way of giving people new ways to express their sexuality and pave the way towards a more inclusive future, changing attitudes and conversations around the subject of sex and wellbeing.”

Lovehoney is currently running a global Design a Sex Toy competition in a bid to seek out the next big innovation in the sex toy world. The Lovehoney competition, ‘Future Sex 2030’, gives Australian’s the chance to design a sex toy which we will be using in 10 years’ time. The competition is open to over 18’s and is split into three categories: students, designers and members of the public. The winner of each category will take home $5k and the design, if successful, will be put into production.

Godwin adds: “Sextech Hackathon perfectly aligns with what we are doing as a company and our ambitions to seek out and develop the next generation of entrepreneurs – it’s great to see so many people excited about sextech.”

Organiser Bryony Cole, also a judge for Lovehoney’s Future Sex 2030’ competition, said: “Sextech hackathons are a great way to encourage innovation in the industry and open the industry doors to a wider group of people. We know the most revolutionary innovations often come from creative collisions and personal needs, both elements we foster at the sextech hackathons – and that sort of innovation is something we want to see more of in the industry.”
