Synergy asked several leading lingerie vendors to give us an insight into what we can expect in 2020.

Allure Lingerie
Lingerie is the ultimate expression of a person’s sensuality. The lingerie they choose to wear, and whom they choose to show it to, says a lot about who they are. As in past years, this year’s lingerie trends are inspired by fashion and cultural trends. What’s especially exciting is that we’re also seeing fashion and cultural trends being inspired by lingerie. Allure Lingerie has been designing lingerie for women and men for over 20 years. In that time, we’ve seen a lot of trends come and go. These are the trends we’re embracing in 2020.

Body positivity
While not a new trend, the body positivity movement has been gaining momentum in recent years and we couldn’t be happier about it. We’ve always believed that women and men of all shapes and sizes should feel confident in their bodies and free to explore what gives them pleasure. Our Diva and Kitten Plus lines are designed specifically for fuller figures, but we make an effort in all of our Allure lines to design styles that look great on a variety of different body shapes.

Breaking down barriers
People are far more open to embracing their sexuality. Turn-ons that used to be considered taboo barely raise eyebrows anymore and there’s far less shame associated with buying unconventional lingerie and accessories. The fact that mainstream brands are now embracing elements of fetish-wear shows how far attitudes have come.

Unexpected textiles and textures
In 2020, we’re playing with unusual fabric choices and juxtaposing hard and soft textures by incorporating lace, mesh and various finishes of faux leather. We’ve added a croc print and paired it with eyelash mesh. The result is a fashion-forward update of some of our most popular designs.

Sweet, but not too sweet
The overall trend in lingerie, and in fashion in general, is toward the feminine and romantic. We’re putting our own spin on this trend by taking traditionally romantic styles and fabrics and adding unexpected elements, turning sweet basics into surprisingly seductive styles. Lace teddies with open bottoms, backless panties, open cup lace bras – the woman who wears these, wears them with a single purpose in mind.

More accessible price points
We’re always on the lookout for materials that look great, feel great and are easy to care for, without being prohibitively expensive. A lower price point makes it easier for customers to explore their different fantasies.

Unapologetic sexuality
Best of all, in 2020, female sexuality is front and center. Women are feeling free to own, explore and share their pleasure, and this is a trend we hope has staying power.

With all the hype of Valentine’s Day, consumers everywhere are frantically looking for the sexiest attire to either wear for, or gift to that special someone, leaving many to wonder what trends are popular for 2020 or what styles may be most flattering for which body type. At the end of the day, intimate apparel is a very personal choice so it is important for consumers to select pieces that feel most comfortable to them or their partner, but for those who are feeling overwhelmed, or for retailers looking to further educate their customers, here are a few pointers on updating a lingerie wardrobe with this year’s latest trends.
This year fabrics are subtle and classic but important in selecting an elegant look. Silky stretch satins and lightweight stretch microfibers are very popular because they are super soft and comfortable but are also very sexy. Delicate eyelash laces are continuing to gain popularity as previously forecasted and laces in general are becoming finer and richer looking with raised satin threads to create luxurious textures. On the trendier side flocked or embroidered barely there stretch nylons are also going strong. Look for bold patterns or a contrasting pop of colour on a neutral base. Keep in mind monochromatic colour schemes are easiest to pull off in most cases, whether it be a neutral shade or a bolder hue.
Uncomplicated fabrics make navigating more interesting silhouettes simple. For tops and teddies, we are still seeing a large demand for both halter and plunging necklines both with and without wires. We are also finding different versions of cut-away cups and strappy details to be very popular. Customers of all sizes need not shy away from these daring silhouettes as they can be flattering on many cup sizes. For bottoms we are still seeing consistent demand for high waisted and high-leg silhouettes and of course anything crotchless is always a go-to.
When purchasing online or as a gift it can sometimes be difficult to determine which silhouettes are going to be most flattering. Additionally, fitting a lingerie style isn’t always as simple as corresponding body measurements to a size chart, so even the savviest customer may still struggle.
Generally, in this case, it is best to avoid a lot of structure which can be difficult to fit without trying on individual pieces. Fortunately, over the last year or so we have noticed a huge trend toward less structured lingerie. Comfort is at the forefront and many consumers are finding that some of the sexiest pieces are slinky and easy to fit. One size fits all type of pieces are great for this reason. They typically offer an ample amount of stretch but most importantly this sizing technique takes the guesswork out of ordering the correct size. One size fits all pieces come in just about every style from bralette sets to teddies to babydolls and everything in between.

In the past one common misconception about one size fits all garments is that they look cheap and could sometimes come off as tacky but today that could not be farther from the truth. Many companies, including Coquette, are making one size fits all garments out of the same luxurious fabrics as their range sized pieces and manufacturing with the same quality of workmanship. A lot of thought goes into features like adjustable sliders and additional hook and eyes to ensure a better fit for everyone. This trend is also very beneficial for retailers making it easier to stock stores and avoid wholes in size runs which would otherwise result in lost revenue.
This year for the Main 2020 collection Coquette is launched four new full range lines designed to give retailers something to merchandise for each season; a delicate eyelash lace bridal line with some styles also offered in black, a velvet flocked mesh line with a darker strappy feel to market during the colder months and a vibrant blue line anticipated to make waves for Spring and Summer. Lingerie as outwear has been a major trend for the past few years and will go on for upcoming years as well.
